Assisting children and young
people to manage their experiences and feelings related to
sexual abuse
The Sexual Abuse
Counselling Program (SACP) is based in Toowoomba and Goodna and
is staffed by multi-disciplinary team of psychologists and
social workers.
Who is Eligible?
-
Children
and young people under 18 years subject to child protection
statutory intervention and requiring sexual abuse
counselling.

Non-offending family members/carers of children and young
people under 18 years subject to child protection statutory
intervention and requiring sexual abuse counselling.

Children and
young people under 12 years subject to child protection
statutory intervention who display sexualised or early
sexual offending behaviour.
Program Aims
The aim of the
program is to provide counselling and support to children and
young people. which will enable them to process the impact of
sexual abuse, develop healthy strategies for expressing the
range of feelings that they may have about this experience,
develop skills in responding better in their relationships with
others, improve their awareness of protective behaviours and
develop a more positive future orientation.
The counselling
program is able to work with children/young people for up to 6
months and provides a clear intake process, assessment of
therapeutic needs followed by a planned delivery of therapeutic
activities including directive and non directive play therapy,
sand play, art therapy, symbol work and therapeutic games and
discussions. SACP counsellors also support parents and carers in
the implementation of appropriate behavioural management
strategies and assistance to support their child/young person
effectively during this period.
