Men and Family Relationships

Helping men to deal with personal, relationship, and parenting problems

 

The Men and Family Relationships Service provides direct support to men and fathers. The aim is to assist men to manage a range of relationship difficulties with their families, partners and ex-partners, children and step-children.

 

Target group

We offer support to men from all cultures, 18 years and over, living between Inala and Ipswich. The program has a special multicultural focus, providing support for migrants, refugees, indigenous people, and people from non-English speaking backgrounds.

 

Services

Support and Counselling

Support and counselling is available for individual men and for men and their partners. Issues covered include separation, beginning new relationships, improving current relationships, managing anger, anxiety, conflict and depression.

Fees

Fees are negotiable. Nobody will be refused counselling because they are unable to pay. Fees include:

  • $15 per one-hour session for Health Card Holders
    (Pensioners, Unemployed, Low Income)

      OR

  • $1 for every $1,000 per yearly income
    (e.g.: for a yearly income of $30,000 the fee would be $30)

Interpreters

For people with limited English, on-site interpreters may be used during counselling to ensure confidentiality and ease of communication.

Anger Program

A course for Men: dealing positively with anger and aggression.

This is a 8 week course for men who acknowledge that the expression of anger through hostility and/or violence is a problem. More information click here.

Parenting Course for Men

'Becoming Better Parents" is a 6 weeks program designed to address issues to parenting, targeting the importance of early development as well as effective communication with older children.

The course has a flexible approach and time spent on each subject will depend on the needs presented and the group dynamic. Every idea is covered by practical examples and group participation is encouraged. The aim of the course is to emphasize the importance of the role parents play in their children's life and encourage further education.
