Family Intervention Program
Working with families to address the care and
safety needs of their children
The Family Intervention Program is
aimed at providing families with an opportunity to demonstrate
through a structured process that they are indeed willing and
able to meet the care and safety needs of their children.
Target Group
The Family Intervention Program is
open to all families engaged in ongoing Department of Child
Safety processes, whether their children are living in the
family home or in an out-of-home care arrangement.
Catchment & Referral
The Family Intervention Program is available to all families
living within the catchment areas of Toowoomba North and
Toowoomba South Child Safety Services Centres. Referral to the
program is via Child Safety staff enquiry to the program
coordinator as per contact details below.
Program philosophy
The program is built on the underlying beliefs:
-
that children
should be with their families wherever possible, and
-
that families are
the 'experts' when it comes to understanding the difficulties
that might be preventing this from happening.
Program activities
Primary activities of
the program include:
-
comprehensive
assessment of the problem processes that have manifested in the
life of the family as they engage in the developmental tasks
associated with growing together
-
solution-focused case
planning utilising the identified family resources and existing
healthy coping mechanisms
-
detailed tracking of
family progress through both qualitative and quantitative measures
informed by extensive interaction with the family and administration
of a range of selected robust instruments
-
supported linking of
families into family and external supports with the capacity to sustain
progress made through the program
-
strong evidence
based recommendations to the Department of Child Safety aimed at
maintaining progress of the family through the child protection
system
