Family Intervention Program Toowoomba

Mercy Community Services Family Services Happy Children in Family Intervention Program

Our Family Intervention Program gives families an opportunity to demonstrate, through a structured process, that they are willing and able to meet the care and safety needs of their children. The Family Intervention Program is open to all families engaged in ongoing Department of Communities Child Safety Services processes, whether their children are living in the family home or in an out-of-home care arrangement.

The program is available to families living within the catchment areas of Toowoomba North and Toowoomba South Child Safety Services Centres who are referred by the Department.

Program activities

The program is built on the belief that children should be with their families wherever possible and that families are the ‘experts’ when it comes to understanding the difficulties that might be preventing this from happening. Our caseworkers are accredited Parents under Pressure therapists, with activities which include:

  • assessing the problems that have emerged in the family’s life
  • planning solutions that build on the family’s resources and healthy coping mechanisms
  • tracking the family’s progress in implementing these solutions
  • linking the families with supports that can help the family sustain the progress made through the program
  • making recommendations to the Department of Communities Child Safety Services aimed at supporting permanency decisions for children.
